Lara Buffard is a French-Swiss performance artist, designer, and maker whose work blends surreal visuals with symbolic depth. Rooted in personal narratives and feminist strategies, her art explores the complexities of living in a gendered world. Lara transforms embroidery, textiles, and needlework into acts of resistance, reclaiming traditionally feminine crafts as tools for storytelling. Her performances inhabit dreamlike, liminal spaces where ritual meets reality, and softness becomes strength. With a background in Museology and Theatre Performance, Lara invites audiences into imaginative worlds where care, identity, and rebellion intertwine — challenging norms and reshaping meaning through texture, ritual, and poetic transformation.
Lara has performed across various venues, including in Switzerland at Kunsthalle Zürich, Tinguely Museum Basel, mudac, Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts Lausanne, Translocal Performance Art Giswil, Performance Reihe Neu-Oerlikon, SpazioELLE Locarno, Dimitri Theater, Verscio, Akku Kunstplatform Emmen. In the UK, her performances have taken place at the V&A Museum, Barbican, Tate Modern, LADA/LiveArtDevelopmentAgency, Chisenhaledance, The Bomb Factory Art Foundation and the Shakespeare Globe Theatre. She has also showcased her work in Spain at Matadero Madrid and the Festival Art d'Acció, in Germany at Sophiensaele Berlin and Theaterhaus Berlin, in Greece at Chimera Art Foundation and Kinono Performance Art Festival in Tinos and in Italy at Arsenale at Venice Biennale.
